Yes it is a picture of snow which we had last week but only a few flakes! Easter weekend we are expecting to hit 70 degrees!!!

Speaking of hot air, the first weekend in June is the 45th annual Helen to the Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Race in Helen, so book now!!!

For people just reading this for the first time let me mention a few things that make us different then any other resort in the N. Georgia.

1. We are a vacation only resort, No Live-ins and no-seasonal renters
2. We decided last summer to become an adult only RV Park, young adults 13+ are allowed. Children still welcome in the big cabins above the RV park .

Melissa and I have had the pleasure to serve you for 14 years and unless given the right selling offer will continue for many more. We don't have a swimming pool, or a bar, just a clean, quiet resort with full hook ups andbeautiful cabins.

We are already starting to fill up but as of now no sold-out dates yet, but we know it is going to be a banner year, so get your reservations in early.

Halloween Party 2017

This years Halloween Party turned out to be a great success despite rain all day till we served the ribs at around 8 pm

Creekwood gave prizes for the best dressed RV's 

Joe and Lori's rig Site#11 which consisted of hand-carved pumpkins, a light show something spooky inside the truck, and something smacked on the hood.

Micheal and Deb's  Site #12 really went all out (you almost had to pay admission)

Announcing Brand New Web Site and Adult only

Creekwood Resort would like to announce the Launching of our Brand New Website Creekwoodresort.com As of Monday July 17^th 2017. We wanted to announce it because many local businesses are featured on our website through pictures or links to their websites.  

We would also like to announce that we are now an adult only RV Resort, Young adults over the age of 13 are welcome., we decided to make it official this year, and for good reason, we have nothing here for kids to do and we have been sending family’s with kids to all the other Campgrounds for years.  After some testing we decided it was time to make it official.

We are still the only RV only park in the area that does not have live-ins or Seasonal campers, and no tent camping.  Our roads are paved and we have level concrete RV sites.  We also have 4 beautiful cabins for 2 to 6 people.

We are across from Ain’t B’s bakery on Hwy 356, this park has been here since 1990 but we bought it in 2004 and we just celebrated 13 years of owning Creekwood on Saturday July 15^th 2017. 

Through the years we have noticed that locals all know where Ain’t B’s Bakery is but don’t realize Creekwood RV Park and Cabins is right across the street.   

Not everyone realize’ s that lodging company’s such as ourselves is the beginning of the Vacation planning process and how much money and time we spend bringing tourists to this area.  We tell them the best restaurants, wineries, zip lining, horseback riding excreta.  We don’t get anything out of promoting all of your businesses except happy customers.  And it goes both ways, if you did not do what you do no one would want to come to this area in the first place.   So we would just like to thank everyone and let everyone know that we are out here 3.8 miles past Unicoi State park and hope you will stop by and see what we have to offer and how we can work together to keep the tourists coming back.

Total Sun Eclipse Passes thru Creekwood without checking in? 

As you can see on the map Creekwood Resort  will get a partial passing of the Eclipse, we would be a great base camp, or staging location.(to avoid the crowds).  I have attached further information and would suggest that what ever you plan on doing plan it now!

 Hello Melissa and Robert,

We just arrived home after a fantastic camping trip at Creekwood!!!  What a great place.  It was our first camping trip in Helen and the first camping trip at all for my sister and brother-in-law.   The week went way too fast.

We were so impressed with our campsite and the showers were so nice and clean.  It was fun sitting out at night listening to the beautiful birds.

The campground is in great vicinity to Helen and other attractions You two are perfect hosts.  Stephen enjoyed working a little with Robert.

• First to Review

When I first called and told the owners Melissa and Robert I was a newbie at RVing and really didn't know what I was doing, I never could have expected what they would do in response. We arrived at Creekwood Campground and Cabins and there they were awaiting us with a warm and friendly greeting. And then they took over! Melissa guided us safely into our parking spot, while Robert helped me disconnect my motorcycle trailer and take my motorcycle off the trailer and park it safely. Then Robert helped me push my trailer next to the RV. Melissa helped us arrange our RV so that the slide outs wouldn't hit any of the hookups (I would not have known to do this and would surely have torn something up). Then Robert got busy instructing/teaching and taking me through every step and safety procedure to properly hook up sewer, electric, water and cable. Then Robert filled my hot water tank (I had no idea this had to be done) and showed me how to turn on my hot water heater. The electric side didn't work so he began troubleshooting and eventually turned on my LP gas side and got the hot water working. He told me I would probably have to get an electronic board to get the electrical side working but no worries, we had hot water for our stay. Then Robert programmed our televisions to receive cable and set us up for the night ( JUST LIKE THAT ) and all of this he and Melissa did at 10pm two hours after the park had closed and one hour past their bed time (we had some problems and arrived there late, but we kept calling and they said keep coming).

The next two days Robert and Melissa checked on our well-being multiple times, recommended places for us to eat and gave us an exclusive tour of their lovely campground and EXQUISITE cabins! They've owned their campground for 13 years and if you don't have an RV or you have more folks than your RV can accommodate their cabins are so beautiful they make you gasp when you see them.

When my flushing valve failed on my toilet Robert was right there to help me try to fix it. He brought me some o-rings and even though we didn't get the leak totally fixed we got it down to a few drips and Melissa got us a bowl to collect the water. I'M SO IN LOVE WITH THESE TWO PEOPLE!!!!

I can only say that Robert and Melissa went above and beyond the call of duty (Robert is an former Navy Electronics Technician veteran) and extended to us a helping hand that we could never have even thought to ask for.  They were a blessing to Tamara and I. I am now confident and knowledgeable about how to hook up my RV at any campsite as Robert gave me such a thorough education!

The campsite is beautiful with modern hookups, cable, wifi, WELL WATER, sewage and 50 amp shore power. They are conscientious, hands-on owners with a keen eye towards customer service and satisfaction. Their customers will always be repeat customers and in my experience I would like to say not only were they great landlords but they have also become good friends.

The Qualla Country Trout Tournament

Guided Tours at Hardman Farm

Saturday, June 28, 2014 - 9:00am - 4:30pm

 The historic Hardman House across from the Nacoochee Indian mound will be open for rare tours on Saturday, June 28, 2014.  Learn the secrets and history of this143-year-old former governor’s farm while on a guided tour with a Park Interpretive Ranger.

 

Tours will take place at 9 a.m.., 11 a.m. and  4:30 p.m.  for  $10 per person.  SPACE IS VERY LIMITED and you must register in advance to attend. To register call Smithgall Woods State Park at 706-878-3087 or email Jessica.James@gadnr.org.  Tours will last approximately one hour, and the house is not climate controlled; therefore, visitors should dress appropriately.

    

Hardman Farm is located 2 miles south of Helen, Georgia on the corner of Hwy. 17 and Hwy. 75.  It is across from a gazebo-topped Indian mound which is a popular landmark in the Sautee-Nacoochee Valley.  The state-owned historic site is not usually open to the public and is operated by Smithgall Woods State Park.

The Destination Helen Motorcycle Rally

Beginning on Thursday, August 14th, The Destination Helen Motorcycle Rally will be in town. Hosted by Chattahoochee Biker Gear, it’s an annual event with concerts, bike shows, contests, games and plenty of party potential.   The event attracts bikers and festival vendors from all over, and promises to be epic weekend!  Are you looking forward to riding the open road, taking it easy and getting crazy with fellow bikers at the rally?  They have great sponsors, vendors & bands. Cooking Class at Jaemor Farms

Two cooking classes set for July!

 

During the past month Jaemor Farms  have hosted two homemade preserves classes with the help of the UGA Extension Service. We're hosting two more in July! Join them to learn the set-by-step process of canning properly. It is time consuming, but with the proper steps, you too can be canning fresh fruits and vegetables this summer to enjoy year-round!

Classes are from 4-8 p.m. and take place at 'The Barn' at Jaemor Farms. Classes are $25/person. At the beginning of each class we take a tour of the farm to learn about the crops we grow and the history of Jaemor. Then we return to 'The Barn' to have a hands on workshop learning about food safety and the process of making jam, or canning vegetables. Below are are the next two opportunities for cooking on the farm:

Creekwood Resort's well water issue

Melissa and I have tried to keep Creekwood Resort's well water issue under the radar, since currently we are working on this snag with our Senator, State Represented and the Georgia Rural Water Association. 

  

But, some of our customers/friends (being concerned) have asked about what happen?. And so here is a very sort version of what is happening.

2004 we purchased Creekwood and had the well  inspected, passed by White County Health Dept.

2006 Creekwood Resort received notifications from the Georgia EPD. Because we have more than 15 water service connection we would be under EPD jurisdiction.

Now between from 2006 till early 2013 we had been working with the EPD to get what is called a Well ID number. We did requested items like school, larger concrete pad around the well, enclosing the well, chlorine injection system.

The last item requested was the well data sheet from the original well driller. But, because White County Heath Dept. does retain this information on record? We met M&R drilling (the original well driller) fill out and sign a new well data sheet.

  After the new data sheet was reviewed by the EPD, only having 90' of outside packing around the casing instead of the full length of the well 609 feet EPD will not give us our well ID number.  

  

So EPD has instructed us to shut down 7 sites this will put us back under White County Heath Dept. or get fined.

  

So the water is ok to drink for 15 sites but not 22?

This month's hiking article is essentials of hiking with dogs :)

1) This year lots of ticks and fleas (warmer winter) so protect the dog, spray a ahead time. We also use a natural soap that respells tick and fleas that is made and sold here locally, we also sell it at Creekwood.(Shampoochie) from Greenstone Soap Factory

2) Collar/Id a must, choose bright colors for easy ID and never choke chains (dogs can hang up on low lying branch's), and of course ID/rabies tag.

3)Use a light nylon lease, leather is heavy. And we use a waterprof

4) Bring water, do not let them drink from puddles/standing water. We bring frozen water bottles and a Tupperware collapsible bowl.

5) Food, small amounts of energy snacks.

6) Of course police after you dog, bring bagsyou know the rest

7) First aid, if you are going for a long/over night hike then you will need to consult a vet.

I carry twezers, and as always my SPOT unit

8)Clothing, booties, and reflective.

9) Of course a camera!

Tie One on Tyathon

Saturday March 24^th was a beautiful spring spring day, with trees blooming, birds chirping, and North Georgia  streams flowing clear and cold, with hungry trout searching the riffles for something to eat. Numerous trout fishermen were hiking  and wading the rivers and streams searching for these fish, ready to softly drop an Elk Hair Caddis or Pheasant Tail Nymph  upstream and have it drift down  to one of these waiting fish.

However, there was one group of ardent fly fishermen who were busy with another project, hoping to lend a hand to one of Georgia's premier trout destinations and outdoor recreation facilities.  Yes, these fishermen were giving up their opportunity to fish Dukes Creek, the Chattooga River, the Tacooa River, the Chattahoochee and other lessor known streams in order to provide their support to Smithgall Woods by entering a fly tying contest.

The event, the first annual Tie One On Tyathon,  brainchild of Ron Thomas, well known Nachoochee fly fishing guide, was held at Unicoi Outfitter's Helen shop, and supported  by Unicoi Outfitters, Smithgall Woods, Tie One On, and Georgia DNR. A total of six entered  teams, consisting of two fly tiers for each team, competed assembling small flies from feathers, fur, and thread over  a  time period  from 10 AM to 3 PM with very little time for breaks. Each team was required to tie four popular flies, with a minimum goal of 48 flies completed.  Teams were judged on the total number of flies tied and the quality of one specific fly, the Elk Hair Caddis.  The winning team selected was Jake Darling and        

                                , with a total of  148 flies tied.  The six teams completed a total of 438 flies, and collected a total of  $ 2,568  from sponsors  to be donated to Friends of Smithgall Woods.

All involved had a great time, and thanks to all the team sponsors and workers who helped make this a very successful  event!  All are planning for next year's scheduled Tie One On Tyathon!
